The Bible For Normal People is a website with one mission
“Bring the best in biblical scholarship to everyday people.” (source: website about us page)
I found out about this site when I bought the book “Romans for Normal People”. Romans has always been a difficult book for me to understand. The main reason I bought this was because the author takes a firm stance on how a lot of interpretations of Romans have been grounded in anti-Semitism and that needs to stop. I was happily surprised to find out that they also tackle the anti-LGBTQ proof texting that happens in the beginning of Romans!
The book is well paced, engaging, and has enough deeper theology in it to make other folks happy. He calls them “nerd notes”.
Since I really enjoyed the book, I decided to check out the site. It’s pretty deep. There’s a podcast, a blog, and several classes. They involve professionals at all levels and different genders. Some classes are pay what you can, others have specific prices.
All in all, I feel good about recommending this site and–
EDITED TO ADD: I realized that, since all the “For Normal People” books are written by different people, that I can only really recommend “Romans for Normal People”. It’s the only one I’ve read so far. I’m not familiar with the other authors.
Here’s a link to the whole “Bible for Normal People” series: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RRRD36T?binding=paperback&searchxofy=true&ref_=dbs_s_aps_series_rwt_tpbk&qid=1679332084&sr=8-1
Especially if you’re starting to explore new ideas about faith and Scripture. If you want to work from a POV of “take what works for you, leave the rest”, these folks have an abundance of information you can dig through.
